Blackhawks Advance to 22nd Championship Game in 24 Seasons with 44-28 Victory over Lions
COVINA, Calif. (July 21, 2021) -- The Inglewood Blackhawks advanced to the LDFL Championship game with a 44-28 victory over the #4 seeded West Coast Coast Lions Saturday night at Covina District Stadium. This will be the Blackhawks 22nd championship game appearance in their storied 24 year history. Inglewood was led by LB Devin Jones who had 8 tackles, 1 TFL, and 1 sack on the day. The defensive unit looked impressive as they played a huge part in dominance as Inglewood led 30-6 at halftime. West Coast scored some late touchdowns to get back within two scores but Inglewood countered with their own to keep distance in the scoring. DB Brian Flowers Jr playing in his first game back since the Blackhawks played the Lions in the regular season had a 16 yard pick six while DB Shaine Boyle had another to assist in the defensive dominance. Inglewood also sacked Lions QB Justin Gunn 5 times on the day.LB Daniel Packer chipped in 4 tackles of his own to help in the victory.
On offense the Blackhawks were led by WR D.J. Carter who exploded for 6 receptions for 108 yards. "D.J. is getting better and better each week because he takes this game of football serious" stated head coach Tony Reid. WR's Dwayne Cross and Justin Sydney both had receiving touchdowns on the day. RB Dezhoentay Fletcher led the ground game with 90 yards on 13 carries while QB Robert Fuller Sr was 13 of 26 for 208 yards 3 TD's and 1 INT. The win moves Inglewood to 9-0 and a date next week with the Beach City Giants for the LDFL Championship. Kickoff is at 5:30PM at Covina District Stadium.
