Halftime Jersey Swap Ignites Blackhawks as they defeat West Coast 51-14

COVINA, Calif. (February 22, 2020) -- The Inglewood Blackhawks played a somewhat sloppy first half leading the West Coast Lions 19-14 but came storming back in the second running off 32 unanswered points as they defeated the WC Lions by the score of 51-14 at Covina District Stadium. The Blackhawks offense played lethargic through most of the first half scoring only three times out of 6 possessions. But a good halftime talk from Head Coach Tony Reid and a surprise unopend box lit a fire up under the Birds going into the second half. Coach Reid told his players that the first half is over and although we're winning, we're actually losing and to take off those black jerseys and gave his players brand new forest green jersey to wear in the second half. The players had no idea this was coming. "Coach Reid changed the game with this one" stated DE Devierre Glenn. Between his talk and giving us brand new jerseys to wear the second half, we had no other option but to ball out.

The Blackhawks offense was led by RB Jayson Allmond who led all rushers with 74 yards and 2 TD's. The quick and elusive Dezhontaey Fletcher followed behind with 54 yards on 9 carries. Inglewood scored 4 touchdowns on the ground with Donte Turner and Brian Flowers both finding the endzone. WR Jalen Amis continues to turn heads as he scored another touchdown through the air while collecting 64 yards on three receptions. The other touchdown reception came from Justin Sydney who caught a 20 yard touchdown.

Defensively the Blackhawks shut down the Lions offense in the second half led by LB Devin Jones who led all tacklers with 8. But the highlight of the defense was DB Curtis Chatmon who picked off the Lions QB three times, returning one 55 yards for a touchdown. His performance earned him the Crab Shack Player of the Game. DB Lee Rodgers chipped in with an interception while Donte Turner scored on a 89 yard interception return for a touchdown. Turner scored on both sides of the ball which shows his great versatility.

Inglewood will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Palmdale California to take on the expansion North County Zulus. Kickoff is set for 5PM at Antelope Valley High School. The game will also be "Live-Streamed" on YouTube so if you can't make it to the game, watch us live on TV. For any questions feel free to contact the Blackhawk team office at 310.946.9733.
