Inglewood Uses Smothering Defense to Defeat Mecca Town 74-12 in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, California (February 16, 2020) -- Inglewood used an onslaught of receivers and backs to wear down the host Mecca Town Bulldogs on their way to a 74-12 victory Saturday afternoon. QB Robert Fuller Sr had a magnificent day (19 of 35 for 398 yards 5 TD's 1 INT) throwing for 5 touchdowns while rushing for two more to pace the Blackhawk offense. But the day went to rookie receiver Jalen Amis who had his coming out party hauling in 7 receptions for a season high 163 yards and 1 TD. "Jalen is something special and I think that he will be one of the season's surprises just like Justin Sydney was last years", stated Blackhawk Head Coach Tony Reid. Inglewood also got big performances from RB Dezhontaey Fletcher who had 140 all-purpose yards and 2 TD's (10 rushes for 62 yards 1 TD and 3 receptions for 78 yards and 1 TD) and some explosive runs. Dual athlete Cory Butler-Byrd excited the crowd on both sides of the ball rushing for 101 yards and 1 TD on offense while picking up 2 tackles, 2 pass deflections, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery. Dual-Athlete Donte Turner turned in a solid performance rushing for 2 touchowns, 2 two point conversions, and intercepting a ball on defense. WR's Tony Parham, Brandon Chambers, and Derl Howard all had touchdown receptions as well.

Defensively Inglewood stocked piled up 14 sacks while Cory Butler-Byrd and Donte Turner both had interceptions for Inglewood. The defense played lights out today with really solid play for DE Devirre Glenn Sr. who had a monster days with 5 tackles, 5 TFL, 4 sacks, 1 PBU, and 1FF. "The crazy part is Root is just now warming up", stated Blackhawk Defensive Line coach Tim Lane. I have the luxury of moving him into many different places and getting the same results. I love it. DT David Williams had a solid game recording 5 tackles, 4 TFL, and 2 sacks. LB Lonnie Bickham continues to position himself for one of the league top honors as he dominated from his position locking in 5 tackles, 3 TFL, and 2 sacks of his own.
