Blackhawks win the 2019 LDFL Championship with 48-14 victory over the West Coast Lions

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 18, 2019) -- It didn't take long for the Blackhawks to show that they meant business as they scored on the opening kickoff of the game as Cory Butler-Byrd scampered 65 yards for a touchdown to put the Blackhawks up 6-0. The two point conversion from QB Robert Fuller Sr to Lejeune Moye made the score 8-0 with only nine seconds coming off the clock. The Lions drove down and tied the game 8-8 but after that the Blackhawks rolled off 40 consecutive points as they defeated the West Coast Lions 48-14 for the 2019 LDFL Championship. This was the 8th league championship victory for the Blackhawks in their storied history. RB/DB Brian Flowers Jr was voted as the games Most Valuable Player as he had one interception returned for 67 yards, 58 rushing yards, a 15 yard reception, and two touchdowns on the day. He accounted for 140 all-purpose yards. This was Flowers second championship game MVP award as he won it in 2012 when Inglewood defeated the So. Cal Steelers, 27-25.

Inglewood had an explosive day on the ground as RB Terrell Alex ran for a season high 173 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns. His performance was definitely MVP worthy as he showed the league why he is one of the best in the country. Inglewood rushed for a total of 251 yards which is a 180 from their normal offensive game routine. "We changed it up a bit because everyone knows that we throw the ball a lot" stated QB Robert Fuller who was 11 of 25 for 152 yards and 1 TD. Teams were game planning to put more defensive backs on the field to stop our passing game but we did the total opposite running our three headed monster of Alex, Flowers, and Gordon. Fullers touchdown went to WR Billy Jordan from 15 yards out. With the touchdown Fuller has connected with Jordan for 30 straight games going back to 2017.

Defensively the Blackhawks scheme was so dominant that they forced West Coast into 10 sacks and 4 interceptions. LB Roy Otis and DE Travis Taylor both had 3 sacks apiece while Taylor also took in a safety to add to his totals. DB Devin Gage chipped in his version of a, "Monster Game" with 2 interceptions of his own and an electrifying 65 punt return for a touchdown that was ultimately called back. LB Devin Jones tied Otis for the game high with 7 tackles while DB Kevin Blane played outstanding as well picking off one pass himself.

Overall the Blackhawks played a near flawless game but take no credit away from the Lions who played a great hard fought game who many didn't think would make it. They defied the odds and showed why their the #2 rated team in the LDFL. Coach Tony Reid was so excited about the victory and explained why this one meant so much. "When we put this team together back in December/January, me and General Manager John Colca knew exactly who we wanted from players to coaches". We were selective on who we brought in and as you can see we put pieces to this puzzle that meshed perfectly. Not only is this Blackhawk team the champions but we are the Undefeated Champions, something that hasn't been done since 2012. Inglewood will take a few weeks off to see what the future holds for them on a national scale. There have been talks of a possible national championship game in Mississippi, Atlanta, or Colorado.
