Blackhawks Stay Undefeated after Defeating 2016 Champion Vegas Trojans 19-14 in Thriller

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 14, 2017) -- The host Inglewood Blackhawks would come out on top in a tense Defensive battle coming away with a 19-14 win over the previously un-beaten and 2016 SCFL Champion Vegas Trojans. The home team would get on the board first in the 1st Quarter with a 9-yard TD pass from QB Nic Stephens to WR Solomon Jones to make it 7-0, Blackhawks. Not one of Stephens better days but he put together some solid stats going 12 of 32 for 199 yards 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Vegas would answer with a 27-yard hard run to pay dirt by RB Akoya Hudgins to cut the lead down to 7-6 after Vegas missed the XP attempt with 14:50 to play in the 2nd Quarter. Things got a little tricky in the 3rd Quarter as Vegas QB Chad Jeffries had his 6-yard TD pass to WR Raymond Shannon called back on a penalty after a obvious holding penalty. They then tried a 33 yard FG that was good – but they took the points off the board when a penalty was called against the Blackhawks. So with a fresh set of downs, the Trojans went for the score but the Inglewood Defense held a classic 4 and out goal line stance and the score remained 7-6, Blackhawks. The Blackhawks defense played lights out all night with big time performances by DB Brandon Smith (2 INT's), DT Edwin Flores (5 tackles 2 sacks), LB Roy Otis (5 tackles 2 sacks), Thyrell Lewis (7 tackles 1 TFL) and DT Devin Johnson (2 sacks). Overall the Blackhawk defense sacked Vegas quarterback Chad Jeffries 8 times intercepting him twice.

Things picked up a bit with 5:26 remaining in the 3rd Quarter when Vegas would take the lead with a QB Jeffries 15-yard scamper and a 2-point XP pass to Randy Shannon to make it 14-7, Trojans. With 4:29 to play in the 3rd Quarter the Blackhawks would strike with a 39-yard TD toss from QB Stephens to WR Julio Gage. Gage had 3 receptions for 72 yards 1 touchdown and 175 all-purpose yards. The XP by Dionne was missed so the Trojans clung to a 14-13 lead. With 1:48 remaining in the 4th Quarter, Inglewood would finally re-take the lead on a 12-yard TD pass from QB Stephens to WR Jones to take the lead 19-14. Jones was voted as the Crab Shack Player of the Game. He finished with 7 receptions for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. The final one being the game winning one. Rookie running back Terrell Alex led the ground game toting the ball 17 times for 77 yards.

The closing seconds were a flurry of desperate plays by Vegas as they made it all the way down to the Blackhawks 15-yard line but ran out of time as the clock wound down. The Inglewood Blackhawks moves to 8-0 and (5-0) in Pac West Big 8 play. They will travel to Las Vegas this weekend to take on the Las Vegas Royals at 7PM at Western High School.
