Blackhawks take the Sting out of Cobras, 17-14
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 15, 2011) -- The Inglewood Blackhawks (2-0 -- 1-0) went into Saturdays contest against the North County Cobras knowing that they would be a test for the 2010 LCFL Champions, and they were correct. But the Blackhawks played good timely football and prevailed by the score of 17-14 at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles. The crowd of 600 plus people were treated to a great game of back and forth football for the first half but saw a second half of football where both defenses pinned their ears back and played shut out football.
The Blackhawks used 2010 National Player of the Year, Solomon Jones as a decoy knowing that most teams we face this season will double and triple team him, and to no surprise, the Cobras did so. With them spying Jones, wide receivers, Reggie Haynes (3 rec. 76 yards), Deshawn Edmond (5 rec. 55 yards), and Nate Harrison (2 rec. 54 yards 1 TD) all became instrumental in the Blackhawk offensive attack. Harrison scored the first touchdown for the Blackhawks on a 45 yard strike from Devin Hollins (10 of 22 for 171 yards 1 TD) who played a solid game for Inglewood.
Defensively, the Blackhawks held the Cobras at bay for most of the game limiting them to a total of 145 yards on the game. The defense sacked Cobra quarterback, Jerry Garrett 4 times while picking him off once on the day. Both Cobra drives were assisted with Blackhawk penalties and a miscue on a punt return which put them in scoring position. "We dropped 4 interceptions right in our hands" stated defensive back, Ken Henderson who had the lone interception and dropped two himself. Were only in our second game so that's just the rust in our game. We'll be okay next week. Sounder, Gabourel, Otis, and Hamilton all had sacks on the day.
The Blackhawk special teams did a great job, especially in the punting game as punter, Jonathan Johnson had a great day nailing three punts for 156 yards for a 55 yard average.
Warehouse Shoe Sales have selected (WR) Nate Harrison (Offense), (DB) Ken Henderson (Defense), and (P) Jonathan Johnson (Special Teams) as their Week One Players of the Week.
The Blackhawks will travel to Huntington Park High School this weekend as they take on the California Dolphins (4-1 -- 0-1) who took a loss to the Valley Predators last week by the score of 14-7. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. and the address is 6020 Miles Avenue, Huntington Park, California 90255. Come support your Blackhawks in Week Two of the LCFL season.
