Blackhawks Blast the Steel Curtain, 57-7 to Stay Undefeated

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 2, 2011) -- In what was dubbed as the LCFL Game of the Week, the Blackhawks (7-0 --6-0) took advantage of every opportunity they had and finally got the Steeler Monkey off their back as they blasted the Southern California Steelers by the score of 57-7 Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.  The Blackhawks had never beat the Steelers in three previous tries so this victory was extra sweet.  Despite having four turnovers and a slow first half start, the Blackhawks put together a solid game plan after only leading the Steelers 16-7 at half-time.  (WR) Solomon Jones (5 rec 101 yds 3 TD's) led the offense by making three spectacular touchdown receptions from (QB's) Devin Hollins (9-19 for 106 yds 2 TD's 1 INT) and Reggie Haynes (3-10 for 93 yds 1 TD and 2 INT's), one of which was a 53 yard pass and catch that was culminated by a diving flip into the end zone.  Both running backs John Nairn (35 yards) and Brian Flowers (1 yard) scored on the ground for the Blackhawks.

But the story of the game was the Blackhawk defense which was led by for Steeler player, Leon Friend.  Friend, who signed with the Blackhawks this off-season, had a monstrous game leading the defense with 7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 2 pass deflections, 2 sacks, and a 99 yard interception return for a touchdown.  Friend had help from fellow linebacker, Roy Otis (8 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INT's with one returned for a TD), (DE) Brandon Souder (6 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 pass defense, and 1 forced fumble), (DB) Kinte Haynes (5 tackles and 1 INT).  "Tonight we played Blackhawk Football and it felt good doing it against my former team", stated Friend.  The Blackhawks also got scoring on special teams from (WR) Deshawn Edmond who scored on a 65 yard kick return in the third quarter.

The Blackhawks will be back home this weekend as they host the Antelope Valley Vikings who are coming off a 34-8 victory over the Valley Predators.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Stadium.  For team or ticket information, call the team office at 323.297.3248.
